BASIC FOOD BASKET ...

WHAT IS THE BASIC FOOD BASKET (CBA)?

The basic food basket is defined by ECLAC, and contains the minimum calorie requirements to ensure the survival of the individual. How do we measure poverty? Poverty has no single definition and its measurement is complex. The used and available in Mideplan (Ministry of Planning), is the poverty line, which is calculated based on total per capita income of the household. If that income does not reach the value of a basket of food, the people who compose the household are poor. On the other part if such income is between one and two baskets, people in that household are poor non-indigent.
